Poor Information Quality Can Get You Sued
September 2007
Daragh O Brien

In the previous issue of this newsletter, I stated that an organisation owes its stakeholders a legal Duty of Care for the quality of the information it produces. In this article, I provide a quick overview of what that ‘Duty of Care’ might be, and how the legal perspective on these issues aligns well with the perspectives of IQ professionals.

But first, a disclaimer: this article should not be construed in any way as legal advice, as the law varies by jurisdiction and country. If you have doubts about the legality of your specific situation, I urge you to bring your problem (and by all means a copy of this article) to your own legal advisors.

I also wish to thank Dublin-based Barrister Fergal Crehan, whose insights and contributions form a basis of this article.
