Collecting and sharing stories, anecdotes and knowledge worker perceptions are an easy and low-cost way to assess the state of data quality in an organization, and to estimate the business impact of low or high quality data.

Unfortunately, this approach is often overlooked by practitioners who seek to build a business case for information quality.

This case study illustrates how Aera Energy LLC leveraged these simple techniques to secure and sustain support for a comprehensive information quality process and for a complete restructure of its approach to information management. Aera Energy is an oil company based in California.
