Abstract:

In a dynamic and mobile world, the challenges of working with international data need to be understood and integrated into our data quality practices. Global media such as the internet feed international data into our systems, demanding a global outlook along with a local approach.

A key to managing global data is knowledge. Knowledge of local cultures allows for improved data input (such as through dynamic web forms), structures and processes.

Though the challenges are great, enormous data quality improvements can be achieved through the application of a relatively small amount of effort and financial outlay.

Think global ... and act global. This presentation outlines some of the most commonly faced challenges of working with global data and provides the opportunity to discover best practices for overcoming them.

Graham RhindGraham Rhind is an acknowledged expert in the field of data quality. He runs his own consultancy company, GRC Database Information, based in The Netherlands, where he researches postal code and addressing systems, collates international data, runs a busy website and writes data management software. Graham speaks regularly on the subject and is the author four books on the topic of international data management.

 

Moderator:

Tony O'Brien Tony O'Brien is a Finance Manager within Remploy, the largest provider of employment opportunities with the UK. He has over thirty-five years experience within the fields of Finance and IS and has been involved in the implementation and development of a number of Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems. He is currently in the final year of a Doctorate of Business Administration (DBA) degree at Nottingham Trent University, focussing upon data quality within planning and information systems, with particular regard to organisations employing disabled people.
